Welcome from the Dean
Welcome to the website for the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs (LCWA). Created in January of 2006, this is the newest of the six academic schools at the College of Charleston. It is my pleasure to serve as the Dean during this exciting new academic venture. I urge you to look at our Mission and Goals statements to gain a greater understanding of the School of LCWA. We are committed to providing our students with the educational experience that they need to become citizens of the world in the 21st century. The School of LCWA offers undergraduate degree programs in: Classics; three foreign language areas -- French, German, and Spanish; Latin American and Caribbean Studies. LCWA Fall 09 Retreat Notes
The language program at the college is one of the most comprehensive in the southeastern U.S., with in-depth majors in classical and modern languages, overseas study programs, specialized programs for future language professionals, and offerings in several less commonly taught languages. The School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs includes four language departments: Classics; French and Francophone Studies; German and Slavic Studies; Hispanic Studies; plus a myriad of interdisciplinary programs and area studies.
