Thurs@3: Blogs and Blogging

All Faculty and Staff are invited to the Thurs@3@Addlestone sessions, but LCWA folks are especially invited, as the your own Jerry Spiller frequently represents the Language Resource Center as a presenter. We've enjoyed your presence at our first sessions, and would love to see more of you there at these twice-monthly sessions.

From collaborators Jared Seay and Jolanda-Pieta van Arnhem comes this description of our next informational session on blogs and blogging:

A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent “post” (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.

(from What is a blog? )

Since this definition tells you absolutely nothing useful about blogs, you should register for the next Addlestone Thursday @3 session and find out the answers to these tantalizing questions:

  • What is a blog? (Jerry's note: this very page is one)
  • How can I get one?
  • How can I make one (with the new CofC blog thing)?
  • Why would I want to?
  • How can it help me teach, learn and communicate?
  • How come everybody at the College has a blog (on the CofC blog thing) except me?

Register by sending an email to thurs3@gmail.com.

(Jerry's note: Don't forget to register, especially for this one - so we can request that the webmaster have your blog account ready beforehand!)

Information about the Addlestone Thursday @ 3 sessions including resources, sites, and a calendar can be found at:

Multilingual, Multicultural Spain... and you!

Prof. Parissa Tadrissi reminds us all of the Symposium on Multicultural and Multilingual Spain coming up on Friday, Oct. 10.

¡Qué cartel!

Look for these panel presentations:

Gabriel Rei-Doval, "Multi-lingualism in Contemporary Spain: Fact or Fiction?"

Jorge Pérez, "Riding to the Beat of Flamenco: Fugitivas and the Andalusian Female Road Movie"

Silvia Bermúdez, "The Roaring 1980s: The Imagination of Race in the Early Songs of Radio Futura and Mecano"

I say again, isn't that a great looking poster that Prof. Tadrissi made? All LCWA Faculty are welcome to our upcoming workshops on Creating Posters and Flyers using Flickr Creative Commons searches and the free, open-source GIMP image editor. You, too, can learn the skills to take advantage of the Lab plotter. Look for workshop dates soon!

ECTR 225 Schedule

ECTR 225, our newly renovated lab, is a computer classroom with stations for 26 students. When classes or workshops are not in session, the room is available for all LCWA students to use for their technology needs, including Internet resources and audio recording and editing. The schedule for the room is available as a public Google calendar, so students and faculty can check its availability at any time:
