The 2 Masters Programs of LCWA
Bilingual Legal Interpreting
A major curriculum modification and schedule for the Bilingual Legal Interpreting Program is underway. The new format will transfer the summer core courses to the schedule of a full academic year. In order to accommodate this change, NO courses will be offered during the academic year 2006-2007. Applications for fall 2007 will be accepted as early as fall term 2006.

The Department of Hispanic Studies is pleased to announce that the College of Charleston will expand its expertise in Bilingual Legal Interpreting to address the growing need for interpreters in the medical realm. Beginning in Spring 2007, we will launch a Master's Certificate in Medical and Health Care Interpreting. This program is timely since the growth in the Hispanic population in South Carolina is great. Because state funded institutions are required to provide equal language access health care facilities are faced with a dearth of qualified interpreters to meet their needs. Our program will train bilingual speakers in the essential areas of language, culture, ethics, and confidentiality, to function in health care settings.
